Can I get travel insurance?

You should ask your travel insurance company whether their policy will cover you - before you take it out. There may be exemptions on some policies after certain dates

Can I fly?

Depends on the airline what the cut off date is - some won't let heavily pregnant women fly for the last 5 weeks. This may sound unfair but there's a bigger risk of blood pressure problems during the last few weeks and this can cause the baby problems. Avoiuding stressful situations is advisable.

It also depends on whether you're flying short haul or long haul.

After so many weeks the airline might request a letter to confirm your due date.

For long haul you may not be allowed to fly after 28 weeks. Check with the airline though.

Can I have innoculations for travel

Some live vaccines (MMR, yellow fever, BCG, typhoid) are a big no no.

Ask your midwife -and avoid travelling to areas which need vacinnations. If you must travel then take professional medical advice - the disease may be worse for your baby than the jab!

Ask your GP about malaria tablets and whether you can take any.

What information can I take with me?

pre-travel health statement from your GP (May also have due date on)

Take copy of antenatal medical records

European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if you're going to europe.

Note of your blood group.
